Polar RS100 Heart Rate Monitor
The RS100 heart rate monitor was built with the running enthusiast in mind. That’s because it offers a few features not found in many, more basic watches. One of those features is a built in stopwatch and another is the lap counter.
And, of course, no heart rate monitor watch would be complete without giving you a way to stay in your heart rate zone by setting a high and low heart rate limit. Plus, you get to track your laps and your average lap heart rate…great for interval and speed training.
These are great tools for keeping track of your workouts. And, if you’re running with weight loss in mind, the calorie tracker is a handy little tool, too. It also makes an estimate of the percent of fat calories you’ve burned during your workout.
The display on the Polar RS100 is nice. It has large easy to read digits and has a back lit display. It’s standard display shows beats per minute and as a % of max heart rate. It also shows lap time and total time, and has a “lap count indicator” in the bottom corner.
Working out on a machine in your gym? No problem, the Polar RS100 will sync up with most types of gym equipment so that you can see your heart rate displayed right on the equipments screen. I find this nice for getting a quick read on my heart rate during training, without having to look at the watch itself.
To set your training intensity you can either use a % of max or beats per minute. You can even have the watch select an appropriate heart rate training zone for you. It does this by using an age based computation to determine what zone is appropriate. Now, this isn’t going to be right for everyone, in fact, people who are very fit are likely training over this zone, so those people may want to set the heart rate zones manually.
Also, if you’re worried about crosstalk between heart rate monitors, don’t be, The RS100 has a crosstalk elimination features so that if you are training around other people, you won’t get any outside interference from their watches.
Polar RS100 Features
* Polar OwnCal: This feature shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time e.g. one week, it helps in achieving both short term and long term goals.
* Polar OwnZone: This feature guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone–your OwnZone–while taking into account your current physical condition.
